Number 31, another wonder from the owner of the well-established and extremely beautiful Number 8, is a modern café bringing forth the much needed and awaited breakfast option to the Defence Colony Market. There are many dedicated breakfast places in Gurgaon, and very few in Delhi but today’s culture and change in demand surely needed a new and refreshing breakfast menu and more innovative options.
Number 31 is divided into 3 floors, the first one especially created to suit their breakfast menu and would be an ideal place even for high tea. It’s got warmth and a feel good vibe that is so pleasant and welcoming. The second floor includes a small bar and a large sushi counter with chefs at work, had rolling each and every sushi diligently. The third floor consists of a beautiful terrace, perfect for both a breakfast or lunch on a cold yet bright day or for a nice casual dinner.
The menu has been well thought of, with different aspects to it. It includes breakfast dishes from across the world; some healthy and delicious options and some not so healthy but popular yet innovative options. It also has a concise dim sum, sushi and asian bowls menu with some fabulous options. Their shakes, smoothies, coffee and tea menu is quite delightful as well and should not be missed.
I tried the following dishes and absolutely savoured them:
Spinach Egg White Omelet: The omelet was quite fluffy, more than usual because of the addition of milk and the little bits of spinach worked well.
Poached Eggs on Hummus: This place has one of the best hummus’ I’ve had and the dish as a whole was delicious.
Apple Pie French Toast: The french toast was perfectly cooked and the apple pie filling was spot on. The green apples were great, especially with that little hint of cinnamon.
Snicker Waffle: The waffles were crispy and golden brown. The chocolate, caramel and nuts were the perfect toppings.
Beetroot And Goat Cheese Sandwich: The combination works really well as a salad and I was quite interested to see how it would work in a sandwich. It was surprisingly good.
Pumpkin and Goat Cheese Crispy Roll: The outer layer was paper thin and extremely crispy. The filling is an innovative one and pretty tasty. Probably one of the best dishes on the menu.
Asparagus Tempura Roll: The sushi was rolled carefully and tasted really good. One of the best I’ve had. The presentation was quite beautiful too.
Beetroot and Pineapple Smoothie: A creative combination and a gorgeous colour that tasted good too.
Berries and Banana Smoothie: Again, a delicious smoothie.
Overall, I’d say you’re really missing something great if you haven’t tried Number 31 yet!
